COMPANIES HISTORY;"Celebrating 22 years in business 1988-2011"

Treloggan has been under our ownership since 1988; however the firm originates as far back as the 1940’s.  The name Treloggan derives from the founder's maiden name.  Our building was built in 1886.

My sister Anita and I, with the help of my father, purchased the company ‘New Image’ hairdressers and Treloggan wigs in October 1988.  Two businesses under one roof!  We are both hairdressers, I was to manage the wig side of the business on my own, whilst Anita managed the hair salon.

 The wig business was very small and slightly ‘seedy’ in appearance.  I did not know very much about wig fitting other than my hairdressing experience.  ‘old ladies’ and ‘strange men’ I assumed would be my customers!  How very wrong I was!  I saw children as young as 4 years old with Alopecia, teenagers, both boys and girls going through chemotherapy, burns victims, people with only 1 ear!   Terrible skin complaints, bad hair dressers all led people to me in search of wigs.  They wanted comfort combined with fashion, so I sourced new wig suppliers and alternative headwear such as glamorous scarves’ and turbans, false neck hair and fringes made them so much more realistic.

Anita was able to customise the human hair wigs for me, as she was a more senior stylist. When chemo patients finished their course of treatment they would often return to us as hairdressing customers’ in her adjoining salon.  We had a very good working relationship for 18 years.

In 1993 our mother Pat joined us on voluntary work, working part time on reception!

Then in 1998 Anita developed breast cancer, she went into remission for 8 years then it returned.  In 2006 Anita died of the illness.

 Anita was an inspiration to us as a family and to all of our customers, amazing us with her courage and continuous determination.. She wore my wigs with flair and pride, she was a testament to us that you could look beautiful and wear a wig all day, every day and no one would ever know.

Treloggan wigs however, has flourished over the years to a well known & profitable business both in Portsmouth and surrounding areas. We have taken part in several local radio interviews.  Models from a local prosthesis underwear catalogue, promoted our wigs in their catalogue.

We loaned some wigs to ‘Ocean  FM’s " Richard Williams, to promote his breakfast show on bill boards throughout the Portsmouth & Southampton areas, with him dressed as ‘Madonna’, ‘Freddy Mercury’ & ‘ABBA’

 

We have spoken several times on Radio Solent discussing Hair loss, Alopecia and Wigs.  (See editorials for one of the interviews).

We provided resourses for the chat show `Kilroy` in the 1990`s

 We have appeared in the Ameona prosthesis magazine, it was a style make-over article promoting how realistic the wigs can be.

Our local paper "Portsmouth News" covered a double page editorial on our Wig business, with Anita telling her own story.

(NOV 2008) We recently loaned some party wigs to the Rowns Hospice volunteer ladies, whom put on an afternoon of entertaintment  for their patients in the form of the Tribute band ABBA!

We regularly hold wig fitting demonstrations (please contact us if you would like us to be a speaker at your club) at women’s events including W.I. to show how well wigs have improved in weight colour and appearance over the years.  (All proceeds are donated)
